Counting and Feeding Small Parts: Packaging Hardware, Seeds and Candy

Aug 24, 2026

Small parts are the hardest products to package by hand: screws, seeds, candies and similar items are tiny, fast-moving and easy to miscount. Doing it by hand is slow and tiring, and errors are costly. Counting and feeding systems solve this mechanically, and Link Machinery has built them with 30 years of manufacturing experience.

Counting Technologies

Photo-eye counters count parts as they fall through a chute, and the machine stops the feed when the target count is reached. For very small or irregular parts, vibration bowls align and feed one by one for accurate counting.

Feeding Without Jams

  • Vibration bowls align parts before they enter the chute
  • Anti-jam sensors stop the line if a part gets stuck
  • Stainless contact surfaces protect food products

Combining Count With Weight

Some lines combine counting with a final check-weigh, so a missing part is caught before the bag is sealed. That gives customers both speed and certainty, and rejected bags are diverted automatically for inspection or rework.

Applications

Typical lines pack hardware kits, garden seeds, candies, capsules and small electronic components into pouches or bags. Counters can be configured for dozens of different product types.
