Automatic Potato Chips Nitrogen Flush Packing Process

Aug 23, 2026

This demonstration shows Link Machinery’s automatic vertical packing line producing nitrogen-flushed potato chip bags. Nitrogen flushing is the key to keeping chips crispy on the shelf — it pushes oxygen out of the bag so the product stays fresh longer. The packing machine handles weighing, forming, flushing and sealing in one continuous flow.

How the Nitrogen Flush Line Works

1. Weighing. Chips are weighed by the multi-head weigher, which selects the closest combination to the target weight in milliseconds.

2. Bag forming. The film is formed into a vertical tube and the bottom seal is closed.

3. Nitrogen flushing. Before the top seal closes, nitrogen gas is injected into the bag, displacing oxygen around the chips.

4. Sealing. The top seal closes immediately, trapping the nitrogen inside for a pillow-like, protective pack.

5. Cutting and coding. Bags are cut, date-coded and counted automatically.
